## Symptom We have encountered random computers that have suddenly stopped connecting to GlobalProtect VPN with the following error message. "The virtual adapter was not set up correctly due to a delay. GlobalProtect will try again soon. If the issue persists, try restarting your system." ![[GlobalProtect_virtualadapter was not setup.png|400x600]] Reinstalling Global Protect doesn't fix the issue. None of the Palo Alto KBs didn't work as well.
## Root Cause The issue is related to the Windows 10 version 21H1 (or 21H2) update affecting the WMI service. Run **msinfo21** (Start -> Run) or on the Command Prompt whether the WMI service is not running or corrupted
## Resolution The WMI service is a critical component in GlobalProtect and must always be running. Please reset the WMI repository to fix the connecting problem. Run the following command from the elevated command (administrator) prompt: **winmgmt /resetrepository** **Note** this will reset repository to the initial state when the O/S was first installed. After WMI functionality is restored, you should be able to connect to the VPN without the error.
## References [WMI: Rebuilding the WMI Repository - Microsoft Tech Community](https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/ask-the-performance-team/wmi-rebuilding-the-wmi-repository/ba-p/373846) [Cannot access the windows management instrumentation software](https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/cannot-access-the-windows-management/75284a7d-8b8a-491b-afab-15fe465b4b53)
## Links [[_MOC_2_Firewall]]
## Tags #firewall
